Pakistan reeds
Pakistan reeds
Anybody on this forum bought these reeds? This seller on ebay is from Pakistan and seems to sell only reeds. Has 100% positive feedback with many complimentary comments on their quality. I know red flags go up as soon as you mention the word 'Pakistan' but maybe its possible someone has learnt the art. Here is the link https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Uilleann-Bag ... SwKINdoaxW

Re: Pakistan reeds
I've used them and to be honest I was very surprised they play straight from the box, their so cheap you can fettle with them and if you goof 'em up no big deal I've got them playing in a few of my chanters no problem.
Hope this helps

Any sound or video clip?38%Irish wrote:... I've got them playing in a few of my chanters no problem...
I get suspicious when buyers of these reeds take the time to leave feedback on eBay without mentioning the maker of their chanters. If you wanted leave a helpful comment for others, that would be the first thing to state. Most makers don't have standard chanter reeds for their own customers, hard to see how a reed from the middle east should work for multiple chanters by different makers. So it may boil down to what preferences you have and how high/low you set the bar.
Personally I think these reedmakers on eBay would be better off selling cane slips ready to be scarped, sanded and tied.
That way it would save you the time to dissect them and leave you more material to make it fit your specific staple and chanter.

Re: Pakistan reeds
I just received chanter reeds from Pakistan few days ago to try in my Andreas Rogge D plumwood chanter.
1 ordered 6 reeds with green colour binding and got one extra reed with black binding free.
Tidied up the bottom of copper staple with small file.
Changed copper bridle with new ones and placed above the binding.
Rubbed with sandpaper/scraped with knife reed head.
Working great now after the few adjustments.
Will leave reeds to settle now for a week or more.
Cheers

Re: Pakistan reeds
so far I haven't been able to get them to play in the Kwisthout chanter that I have. They either take too much air, and/or have a weak back d. Im working on the to see if I can get one to work well, so we. shall see. They play through 2 octaves easily, but the worst of it is the back d problem.
