Hi,
can someone suggest me some contemporary recordings of players with a more closed and less wild style?
I got the impression that the most younger pipers play in quiet wild and open style therefore it would be especially nice
to listen to some younger or at least contemporary players with a different style.
Thanks!

Brian McNamara plays in a fairly closed style, lots of tight triplets, stops, etc. All of his albums are worth having.ertwert wrote:Hi,

Brian McNamara, Mick Coyne, Mikey Smyth, Emmett Gill
If you head into NPU's archive you can find live recordings of probably everyone mentioned as well as some younger players that haven't recorded much including Padraic Keane and Fionnan MacGamhann.

Perhaps such an obvious choice that he's not been mentioned already is Robbie Hannan. Paddy Keenan can also play super-tight on occasion but I can't think of any recorded examples.

Mikey has been mentioned. Of the currently popular pipers, maybe Joey Abarta and Padraig McGovern fit the bill best.

You may also like two compilation albums NPU has put out somewhat recently of 'younger' players, "The Rolling Wave" & "A New Harvest"
