Liam O'Flynn - "Cloch Le Carn" feature on RTE TV
The episode of Cloch Le Carn on RTE1 on May 14th featured Liam O'Flynn. It is still available on the RTE player for a couple of more days at this link for Irish only viewers.

Did anybody on here happen to record it? Unfortunately it is only available within Ireland due to 3rd party rights restrictions.

There was a brief exchange here, mostly by people unable to get it.

I'm surprised how often Irish stuff is not available in the states. What's the logic? There are way more Irish Americans then there are Irish Irish--orders of magnitude more--and while it's legit to observe that most of them know little or nothing of actual Irish culture, the way to change that is not to make Irish traditional music less available.

Unlimited VPN by KeepSolid Inc allows viewing RTE outside of Ireland.

Re: Liam O'Flynn - "Cloch Le Carn" feature on RTE TV
I got a reply from RTE explaining that the obstacle is copyright (actually, the many copyrights) on the various original footage sources used in the program.
Apparently, a not unusual circumstance wth one-off documentary making (e.g. Clive Jamess' "Fame in the 20th Century" - never to be seen again via the big broadcasters, due to copyright...).
I'm more surprised someone has not lifted this up to youtube....yet.

Out where I live, the satellite services are the only way to get internet, and they don't play well with VPN's - too much latency.Kerryman wrote:Unlimited VPN by KeepSolid Inc allows viewing RTE outside of Ireland.

Isn't there an agency whose job it is to promote all things Irish here in the USA?PB+J wrote:I'm surprised how often Irish stuff is not available in the states. What's the logic? They might have the wherewithal to make it happen.

"RTÉ is financed by television licence fee and through advertising, with some of its services funded solely by advertising, while others are funded solely by the licence fee" (WIKI). Americans of Irish ancestry living in America don't pay tax in Ireland, or contribute financially to the Irish public broadcasting sector, so RTÉ has no responsiblilty to educate, or entertain, citizens of foreign nations.

It's a different one but I'll tack it onto this thread anyway:
TG4 had a documentary on Sunday night:
Quite lovely one too. It's on the TG4 player.

Liam O'Flynn-Píobaire
This feature documentary tells the story of master piper, Liam O'Flynn, from his membership with iconic Irish supergroup, Planxty, through to his ground-breaking orchestral work in The Brendan Voyage.
Quite lovely one too. It's on the TG4 player.
