Wasn't it Henry Bohannon?

Anyway, then he went out and people started noticing him and he still wasn't happy with his music, just like when he thought he was playing well but had nobody listening to him. It's one conundrum and you can't win one way or the other.

Perhaps it was... but if I recall correctly there are two versions of the story each a little different from the other.

I am not sure either, it's been a while. There's a version in one of O'Neill's books that Ennis expanded, as far as I remember anyway.

Tell us something.: If you flush your toilet 7 times whilst lilting "The Bucks of Oranmore", an apparition of one of the great pipers of old will appear in the mirror, you will be blessed with good reeds, but cursed with bad bags and bellows.

of course there is 'Féidhm Tonn Ri's Castle' , perhaps only available on Vinyl ( Claddagh CC19) but a whole LP with the one long story and tunes in between who's titles are suggested by the story. I never hear people talk of this Seamus Ennis recording from 1977, perhaps it is not so significant to pipers.

My children loved this recording and my daughter has been looking for a CD or downloadable version to play to her children... I would be interested if anyone has a source.

Spotify and amazon should have it, and Itunes

Spotify has it, as "Feidlim Tonn Ri's Castle."

I had a look throug my Seamus Ennis - CDs and found a copy of Feidlim Tonn Ri´s Castle. I had forgotten that decades ago a friend had burned me one.

Since sndup is limited to 15 MB I had to split it into 4. Here is part 1 (to be continued later).

Here's one for a dark Monday morning. Ennis on good form, in free flow, at the 1980 Tionol in Bettystown, pouring out whatever came into his head, telling stories, singing and playing all sorts. Here he is telling of late night stories of an ancient Irish Johnny and a bishop

I'll leave it up for today--Link now removed.

I don't know so much about piping, but I do know storytelling, and that's good storytelling.

If it's Irish Wonder Tales you want, the best I've ever seen was Alice Kane. Here is her telling of The White Trout. You can get a collection of her storytelling from Storytellers of Canada or by download from CD Baby.

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

And that would be good enough for anyone. I'd love to have met him.

Indeed, personally I believe the music, the stories, it’s all part of the whole. It’s LIFE :)

Shame I missed that link, oh well
