I had the chance this week to play and review a Carbony Highland whistle in A, a carbon fiber whistle that uses highland bagpipe fingering. This thing is pretty cool! Even the high G gracenote works on low A and G (an issue other "highland" whistles often had when I played them). I also compare it tonally with my Michael Burke penny whistle (also in A). Even if the "highland" aspect of the whistle doesn't pertain to you, having that lowered 7th under the tonic makes a whole lot more tunes available for the whistle. Thought folks here might find this interesting/useful. Cheers!

That was rather interesting. I have two Carbonys myself. Some of the best whistles I own. After the video I practiced my crans. lol. Do you maybe have a link for a video that explains all the bagpipe ornaments and grace notes?

Re: Review of the Carbony Highland Whistle
I have several videos on bagpipe embellishments. Granted, they're on the practice chanter, but they all apply to this particular whistle as well. Here's a playlist of my technique videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... kI_f3FSSqQ. The one on Doublings would likely be a good one to start with.

Thanks! I'm gonna look into that. I was amazed how the ornamentation sounded on a whistle.

That was really interesting; thanks for taking the time. I knew about that whistle, but have never seen one played; now I get it. All the pipers around here just use regular whistles as far as I know.

There is a GHB chanter whistle being sold by The Irish Flute Store in Colorado. It's a previously owned model made by Elfsong in the key of D. It has the same tuning and hole configuration as a bagpipe.
