Security certificate expired?
When I attempt to access C&F from my phone, I get a warning screen every page that says 'this website's security certificate expired 5 days ago'. This makes the forum incredibly cumbersome. My laptop has no problems with acess. Anyone else experiencing this?

Not me. I just now got to the Index Page by phone without a hitch, and the other forums as well. But I didn't log in, if that makes any difference.awildman wrote:When I attempt to access C&F from my phone, I get a warning screen every page that says 'this website's security certificate expired 5 days ago'. I'm not logged in either. I cleared cookies and restarted my phone, with no effect.

Re: Security certificate expired?
This problem has not occurred on any other website, it seems to be restricted to C&F.

Shouldn't I be seeing it too, then? I'm not.awildman wrote:This problem has not occurred on any other website, it seems to be restricted to C&F.
I don't think we've ever even had anything called a "security certificate" - whatever that is. Sounds bogus.

Re: Security certificate expired?
It is not bogus. It is function of Google Chrome. It just happened on my PC as well. It seems to happen when using a link from browsing history, or when being directed from another website (such as a web search). I was able to get to to C&F on my phone, but only by typing in the web address manually. Once in, it seemed to be fine. But when I go through my browsing history, the alert happens again.

Re: Security certificate expired?
It's real. I didn't notice it before because I didn't know that you could access the forum via https:// as well.
The forum has a Let's Encrypt certificate issued to forums.chiffandfipple.com, and it expired on October 4.
It should be enough to run a one-liner command on the site to update the certificate (I recently installed a Let's Encrypt certificate on my own server and on that one it's done by an automatic cron job when the time is near)
Edit: To see it, try this link: https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/
If your browser doesn't warn you about the expired certificate then your browser has a problem. (Obviously the problem will go away if and when the certificate gets updated. It was last updated July 6 2019)

Re: Security certificate expired?
I've had it a couple of times on a Chrombook converted to running a real Linux distro using Firefox, but this morning it let me in no problem. My desktop/laptop running the same version of Linux & Firefox never had any problem.

All right, I stand corrected. This is a new thing for Ben and me. We're on it.Tor wrote:It's real. I didn't notice it before because I didn't know that you could access the forum via https:// as well.

Re: Security certificate expired?
Hi Folks.
I logged into Dreamhost, where I have the account that has hosted this board since about 1948. I may have that date wrong. Here's what I'm showing.
..................................................................
FORUMS.CHIFFANDFIPPLE.COM
Manage Certificate Settings
Let's Encrypt Certificate
This certificate is valid and currently in-use with forums.chiffandfipple.com.
VALID THRU 2019-11-29
Certificate will automatically renew 30 days before expiration. We will notify you via email when this happens.
..........................................................................................
Not sure how to proceed, given that.
Does any one have any ideas?
Thanks,
Dale

Re: Security certificate expired?
Well, that's baffling. Dreamhost is still showing it as not-expired. I need to get with their support people. I just haven't had time.Tor wrote:I'm trying a screenshot:

Not "trouble" for me, because I always use http://. However, the security certificate for https://forums.chiffandfipple.com is still expired.Nanohedron wrote:Anybody still having trouble with this?

Yes, confirmed. Still the old certificate.
