Just heard in the TV news, he was a bit of a character, by all accounts, but a great drummer in/of his time.

As far as I'm concerned, the three greatest rock drummers (Moon, Bonham, and Baker) are no longer with us.
In comparison to Moon and Bonham, Ginger Baker called much less attention to himself. But like Bonham (and Clem Burke of Blondie), he played with so much power. I've been listening to a lot of Cream today, and I'm also struck by his sparse use of cymbals and the snare.
