Irish trad duo Lilt celebrates 10 years with new CD "Lilt X"

Post by Dereelium »

“Lilt X" is a celebration and the 4th CD from the Irish traditional duo Lilt: Tina Eck (flute, tinwhistle) and Keith Carr (bouzouki, tenor banjo, mandolin). The release marks Lilt's 10th year together — hence the “X"! The X also stands for our mystery tune “The Unknown Reel”. A tune which Tina found scribbled on a piece of staff music paper. We have - so far - not been able to locate the composer or origin of this lovely melody. The mystery continues: if any of you know where this tune comes from, please contact us at info@liltirishmusic.com. This anniversary album presents a collection of Irish traditional and contemporary tunes in a variety of forms -- jigs, reels, set dances, polkas, airs. You’ll hear 16 tracks of new music, you’ll recognize the classic ‘Lilt sound’, but you’ll also meet some familiar friends. Lilt invited some of the best Irish musicians in America for selected tracks: Billy McComiskey on accordion, Donna Long on piano, Josh Dukes and Zan McLeod on guitar, Sean Heely, Philippe Varlet, and Peri Leighty on fiddle, Jim Stickley on bodhran, Sean-nos steps from champion dancer Kate Bole. ...plus, an appearance by renowned klezmer clarinet wizard Seth Kibel.

"The three "Ts"" - I like that. :)
Incidentally, tried yesterday to find the album on "iTunes" - found one previous recording, but not this one. I'm in Scotland. Should it be available on "iTunes" in the UK ?

Hm, Kenny - it is available in iTunes here in the US - I am not sure if there is a different "iTunes" in the UK ? You have to search for Lilt and then look for "all" albums. 'Lilt X' then shows up a little further down the page. You can also order a hard copy via our website: www.liltirishmusic,com, sorry about that, best regards, Tina (Is this you Niall ?:)

Tell us something.: Hi, it's me- the hack with a flute! I visit sessions all over the US and even play a few tunes while I'm there! Probably best to bring ear plugs if you know I'll be at your session!

I’ve never had the pleasure of playing with Tina, but I’ve played with Keith numerous times at Daniel O’Connells. The man is a living legend! Give this recording a listen! It’s available on Amazon as well.

Hi Tina - thanks for your reply. I may have missed it before, but your recording is indeed up on "iTunes" now.
I am not Niall Kenny, "Kenny" is my first name. Niall and I have been playing music on flutes together in Scotland for nigh on 40 years now, which is quite a scary thought !
I may or may not buy the whole album, but I will certainly buy 1 or 2 tracks to play on the community radio programme which I co-present here in Aberdeen, always assuming you have no objection to a bit of promotion in Scotland.
Also, I am always intrigued by "unknown / mystery" tunes.
I wish you good luck with the album, hope it sells well for you. Best wishes, Kenny.
