CITES Update

Post by Casey Burns »

I just checked on the status of the CITES meeting that was supposed to be underway in Sri Lanka. There is a proposal (see https://cites.org/sites/default/files/e ... rop-52.pdf to exempt finished musical instruments from CITES II requirements.

Unfortunately, due to security concerns the CITES meeting which was supposed to be happening right now was postponed due to security reasons. There is no official word on when they will be meeting again.

Thus the current regulations requiring exporting and sometimes importing permits for African Blackwood and other CITES II woods currently stands.

Geez, the CITES folks aren't willing to risk their lives for instrument makers? :waah:

OTOH, what were they thinking having the meeting in a pretty unstable country?

Presumably emergency health care and funeral services are also...

Best wishes.
