Tell us something.: Paddy Maloney rules! Ok, seriously though, I love the Chieftains. I'm here for whistle and flute discussions. Looking at the classifieds as well.

Hi all, I have a Seery Delrin that has a cracking cork and it also moves around a lot. How do i go about fixing this? Do i need a new one or can i revive? Thanks.

Tell us something.: Hi, it's me- the hack with a flute! I visit sessions all over the US and even play a few tunes while I'm there! Probably best to bring ear plugs if you know I'll be at your session!

Here are some videos that will show you how:

These are for clarinets, but our flutes most resemble clarinets in construction

I suspect the OP may be talking about the headjoint cork. Much more likely to be cracking & moving. More wine bottle style than the thin sheet used to wrap tenons.

On the headjoint, probably best to replace the cork, sand to fit, & set back at the correct position.

Find a replacement cork - wine bottle, woodwind repair shop, whatever. Size to fit. The headjoint on a Seery is cylindrical, so no taper is necessary. The cork will be approximately 19-20mm in diameter, same as the inner diameter of the Seery tube. Use a wooden dowel to place it for best performance, starting with the potential positioning as in the instructions below. Actual location will depend on your preference for tone and playability, consistent with good tuning for the particular flute:

If you think replacing the cork is beyond you, head to any woodwind repair shop, and they'll probably get you close enough for a low fee, and you can still adjust as I've suggested.

If your current cork was not cracking or crumbling, then there are revival methods that can work for a while. Some suggestions:
