Newcastle Piping Festival 2

Post by andymay »

I should have put this on here sooner, but anyway -

We're having a piping festival in Newcastle this weekend, with guest pipers from Ireland, Scotland, Galicia, Belgium and obviously Northumberland! Featured pipers include -

Chris Ormston - Northumberland
Anxo Lorenzo - Galicia
Ross Ainslie - Scotland
Iain Gelston - Northumberland
Birgit Bornauw - Belgium
Jarlath Henderson - uilleann pipes

and more!!

Details can be seen here -

All welcome. If it goes well enough we'll do it again!

cheers

Just seen and heard Birgit and her accordion-playing partner Benjamin Macke on their stopover in Sheffield, organised by the city's Eurosession. Stunningly good playing on the Flemish bagpipe (what an exciting instrument it can be) and on the French baroque musette. Northumbrian pipers should be fascinated to hear the latter instrument, the undoubted forbear of their own. Benjamin's foot pedal bass (apparently the revival of a Belgian folk instrument) is an added source of interest.
