Hello there. This is a recording of the Scottish folk song "Braw Lads o' Galla Water," which I believe is a Robert Burns poem set to music. This version is by a gentleman named Maurice Leger who lived the life of a medieval tinker. He passed away about five years ago.

There are some pipes played throughout this recording. Can you tell what kind they are? I thought they sounded like Scottish smallpipes or something similar. But there are passages where the chanter is silent and the drones continue, as with Northumbrian smallpipes.
What type of pipes are played in this recording?

Thanks. To me, the tone wasn't as "sweet" as other NSP I've heard, so I thought it might be a different instrument.

I think you're just hearing poor recording quality. But there are a ton of different small pipes out there so it could be something other than Northumbria.RenaissanceGuy wrote:Thanks. To me, the tone wasn't as "sweet" as other NSP I've heard, so I thought it might be a different instrument.
Although that's still my guess...
