Do players and makers all just get along or what?

Post by michaelpthompson »

I'm curious. I don't see a forum dedicated to makers. Do players and builders just all post to the same forum, or am I missing something?

P.S., asking because I want to do both, but I don't want to make a faux pas by posting stuff in the wrong place.

Thanks.
Cheers!

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Welcome Michael!

Yes, everybody just gets along. :) Post away, in the appropriate instrument forum and see what happens. :)

Interesting that this should come up, not so much because someone in the Flute Forum asked basically the very same question only a day or two ago, but because the question's never come up at all before, IIRC. Very considerate of people to ask, it must be said.

C&F: Come for the rubbed elbows, stay for the synchronicity.

Oh, and if you post in the wrong forum, don't worry; the mods'll move it for you. No big deal. It's what we're here for. :)

Thanks Nanohedron, I discovered that thread just after I posted. I'm of mixed feelings myself. A dedicated maker's forum would be useful, but then you have the dilemma of either makers of all instruments in one place, or making individual forums for each instrument and having low participation. I can see upsides and downsides either way.

In any case, thanks for the welcome.
Cheers!

Hi michaelpthompson,

What strange synchronicity. I asked the same question just the other day.

I don't see why you would need to split into individual instruments, that seems unnecessarily fine grained to me. Flutes are flutes I reckon. That includes whistles of course. [It was specially a flutemakers section I was positing.]

I did find your question and your thread later, and followed it with great interest.

I agree that you wouldn't want to split into individual instruments, but the question was more about whether makers of other instruments might want a similar functionality. Flutes and whistles go together, but what about Uilleann pipes, stringed instruments, or other instruments covered on the forum? Or perhaps there wouldn't be enough traffic for those to interfere with discussions on the Flutemakers forum?
Cheers!
