One person just made it on my ignore list, but to answer your question:
I think that was just a misunderstanding or I worded it wrongly. I know they are different techniques. Just meant that I use diaphragm vibrato and not throat vibrato. Also on D whistles BTW. Works fine for me :) .

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

These are decidedly not identical, so it won't do to suggest that one is the same as the other. Throat vibrato is done by a rapid, repetitive closing/fluttering in the throat itself and the diaphragm has nothing to do with it other than supplying air pressure as usual. Diaphragmatic vibrato, OTOH, uses an unobstructed, more or less relaxed throat and the tonal modulation is done in the abdomen.

The first time I encountered throat vibrato was from a fellow on low whistle, and the effect was unattractive in that it was rattly and noisy, an "uh-uh-uh-uh" sort of delivery. There are various means to accomplish vibrato, but these will depend on the instrument. For flute and whistle, my recommendation is to avoid throat vibrato like the plague.

Yep, I know it's not the same. It's just my poor English  . I meant I learned diaphragm vibrato and not throat vibrato (which I think I can't even do at all).

But does that mean you can't play non-legato or staccato runs on them? :really:
I know lots of people who can't... :P

Best wishes,
