Hello,
I recently acquired a wooden overtone flute, and was desperately looking for info on traditional tunes of the seljefloyt or for koncovka, etc.
I was looking for inspiration on how to play an overtone flute or some kind of beginners guide...
I found helpful videos on youtube and a book by Jean Pierre Yvert "Spela sälgflöjt", which seems to be the only book on playing overtone flutes, he also seems to have collected some scandinavian tunes, which come on a cd.
Does anyone know a good site on playing overtone flutes or some interesting youtube videos in this respect?
Does anyone have the book+cd "Spela sälgflöjt" by Yvert and would like to trade?
I could offer a tin whistle for trading, which I bought in a music store several years ago.
It´s made of brass, tuned in the key of D, 29.5 cm long and has the letters "KWL" engraved at the end.
I hope it´s ok to post it in this forum, I didn´t want to start a new thread.

Re: Spela sälgflöjt
Many thanks maki, for posting this link.
Max Brumberg has indeed a good short video on youtube on basic playing techniques and it seems to be the only video on how to play overtone flute.
I found it useful for getting started with the overtone flute.
In the meanwhile, it seems possible to get hold of a copy of Yvert´s book, I´m curious about it.
Another question:
Does anyone know another seljefloyt maker/seller, preferably in Europe, who is selling willow flutes, that are not too expensive?
I´ve got my overtone flute from Marek Gonda (http://www.english.fujarka.cz/).
There is Max Brumberg, who also seems to be a reliable maker and who was already mentioned above by maki.
And I found the sites Fredmans Musik (http://www.fredmansmusik.com) and Naturinstrumenter (http://www.naturinstrumenter.no/) - which I would take into account - in another thread (viewtopic.php?f=20&t=54300&p=707213&hil ... te#p707213).

On the subject of willow flutes, Alison Melville, http://www.alisonmelville.com/miscellany.htm, reports, "I own four, in different keys - three by Ånon Egeland, and one by Magnar Storbekken." She doesn't give any reviews of the individual flutes, but I can attest she is a seasoned professional with high standards for her woodwinds.

Re: Spela sälgflöjt
Interesting, thanks
Then Magnar Storbekken and Naturinstrumenter seems not to be a bad choice.
Unfortunatly I couldn´t find any information on buying Ånon Egeland´s flutes, but I will try to contact Alison Melville via e-mail.
Thank you for this information!

Re: Spela sälgflöjt
Bob Rychlik has several great videos on YouTube, including an hour-long presentation at the Library of Congress. He is teaching a class on overtone flutes this July in Westminster, Maryland. I'll be taking that class. There is also an upcoming class in Europe, I believe in Slovakia. Bob is working on an English language instruction book on overtone flutes. He has always been helpful to me when I've asked him questions.
