Aloha,
In my last post I had requested any Scottish songs that might be suitable for a beginner, but during my day off today (while exploring the session.org and practicing 'Westering Home' and 'The Bell Table') I wanted to open-up my inquiry to include any beautiful waltzes that you all may be able to recommend, with the caveats being that I'm a new whistler and that I am doing best with ABC notation that is simple and open (without excessive ornamentation and such) and focusing on melodies that can be played slowly at first (and are still recognizable at that speed...). It's a major plus (for me) if the particular version of any recommended tunes is listed on the Session, since the MIDI files allow me become familiar with the rhythm and melody (as it's often my very first exposure to any of these wonderful songs).
Yes, I would be very grateful for recommendations of waltzes or other slow, beautiful tunes from anywhere around the world - thank you all!
Rich

Try Margaret’s Walt in G (or A if you can manage the g#’s.)

Jay Ungar's Ashokan Farewell is a beauty. In Dmaj you'll need to substitute for a low B note. The Session has it in G also, but it might sound shrill at the top.

Re: Waltz recommendations?
Wow, thank you all for these excellent recommendations! Tommy Bhetty's is one of the finest sparkling waltzes that I've (never) heard! It may be a stretch for me at this point, but I plan to approach it slowly and methodically and will be excited just to be working on such a beautiful song. Thank you all again pretty ideas!
