Hi, does anyone know anything about a flute maker/company from Newcastle - J Preston or James Preston?
I have an 8 keyed cocuswood. I've not met anyone who plays one and it's always annoyed me that I can't find any information about it!
All I have to go on is the stamp saying -
J. Preston
23 Collingwood St
Newcastle On Tyne
Cheers

J Preston. Newcastle Flute information?
Re: J Preston. Newcastle Flute information?
Post a photo. At least it will help with deciding whether Preston was making flutes or just stamping them.
I don’t have Langwills but it’s worth a look in there as well.

The New Langwill Index has a John Preston with various London addresses from the late 1700s to early 1800s, also joined by Thomas Preston toward the end. But there is no mention of any Newcastle addresses.

- Tell us something.: I try my best to play the flute and pipes. I have been coming here for years and now are required to fill this out for an address change.
