I've no idea who the mystery man is. Actually, I was more interested to find out who the original "Slugger" is or was. So I googled the name and came up with lots of images of baseball bats. I can't see much of a pipey connection there but I suppose baseball bats can be made into chanters and vice-versa!

If I'm not mistaken, Eliot Grasso used to have a Kirk Lynch chanter made of ash, which, conceivably, may have been turned from a baseball bat.
