Hello everybody here.
I haven't been on the forum here much because I've been busy developing a new whistle.
So to give a rough description, the mouth piece in made from brass and Delrin. The same as all my whistles nowadays.
I use a few different woods to make the body, including African Blackwood, Katalox and Lignum Vitae.
The internal bore of the whistle is tapered which is a design I employed to give a better balance of volume (loudness) between both octaves. I also use a method of scalloping, or recessing, the finger holes.
This can provide a bit of comfort but it is very much a tuning device too.

They are a bit loud but the wooden body provides some mellowness, especially with the 2nd octave.
So check it out here,

- Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free - Location: Loren has left the building.

Lignum Vitae.....are your whistles going to be resin impregnated or heavily sealed both inside and out? Lignum Vitae cracks when used for mouth blown instruments.

Loren,
The Lignum that I use is Bulnesia sarmientoi, which is the Argentinian variety.
Ive made sme prototype whistles from this lignum over the last 2 years and no sign of any cracking.
Mind you, it's a fairly oily wood and moisture resistant so cracking due to wetting and drying is not an issue.
However, it is a brittle wood so I make sure to place slightly longer ferrules on each end od the whistle body for extra security and strength.
Paul, I will have wooden whistles in Eb, C and Bb coming soon.
As well as lower ones in G and F.
