WTB: Dance Music of Willie Clancy

Post by daveboling »

May be unobtainium, but does anyone out there have a copy that they don't remember the last time they had out, and would be willing to part with it for a reasonable amount?

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

Sorry, this post won't help ...

... but I love my copy of the Dance Music of Willie Clancy. It has some of my own notes made over a few decades. (Of course, I can't understand some of them.) The settings are interesting. I used to think that some of them were so quirky that they must be wrong. But that turned out to be because I didn't know how to play them. I can't play pipes, so had to do my best to imitate on fiddle what I thought was probably the intended sound on pipes. If you follow me ...

I hope you find a copy.

Also on Amazon. I can't vouch for the "reasonable" part of the prices...

Best wishes.

I had a copy that I picked up in Ireland in the late '90s. Then in college, I photocopied a few tunes from it to give to a friend who was thinking of learning some fiddle tunes and left it sitting in the library copy machine. When I realized I had forgotten it, I raced back for it, but it was already gone, never to be found.

I'm still kicking myself all these years later.

I was lucky. I bought a copy early in 2005 from the internet, and still refer to it. Quite a hike in prices.

I think Ossian are defunct (?). But it is an important publication, with its author still very much living. Can it not be re-printed.
