FS: Left-handed 4-Key Flute by Hammy Hamilton & Terry McGee

Post by The Sporting Pitchfork »

Hello, all!

Thanks for taking a minute to check out the flute that I have for sale.

4-Key left-handed flute in African blackwood with silver keys, slide, and rings by S.C. "Hammy" Hamilton, Cúil Aodha, Co. Cork with a headjoint by Terry McGee, Canberra, Australia

This is one of Hammy's older flutes, probably 20+ years old given the saltspoon keys. I bought it directly from Hammy in 1999, and it was my main flute up until last year. In 2003, I had Terry McGee make a new thinned head joint for it with a rounded rectangle embouchure. This flute is LOUD. It cuts through the loudest session like a blowtorch. Hanz Araki borrowed it for a little while for some gigs and described it as "awesome." It's also one of the most comfortable flutes I've ever played owing to the lightness of the thinned headjoint and the ergonomic embouchure. Compared with other Hamiltons I've played (and also Olwell Prattens), you get a lot of power for not a lot of air.

You can read more about Terry's innovative headjoints here:

http://www.mcgee-flutes.com/heads.html

You can find pictures of the flute on my website, http://www.portlandpipes.com

Listen to samples of this flute in action on Soundcloud:

The only reason I'm selling it is that I bought a 6-key flute from Stéphane Morvan last year, so I don't play this one much anymore. I'd like it to go to a good home. Comes with the original wooden case that Hammy supplied with it.

$1,200 OBO + shipping

NB: I'm located in the NW United States. While I am willing to ship the flute internationally, be advised that shipping the flute internationally would result in a delay while I obtain documentation to avoid any unwanted CITES shenanigans.

Having sat next to this flute many times at sessions I can say it is a great one. I wish I played lefty so I could buy it.

Having another go at selling my fantastic Hamilton/McGee flute. The flute has been well maintained and is in excellent condition. Big, reedy tone; very light and comfortable to play. $1200 US o.n.o.

Here are some recent images. Audio files can be found in my original post above.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')
