Greetings,
Here is a nice video showing the fly-by of Pluto by the "New Horizons" space probe. It's a simulation showing all of the data-gathering maneuvers that will take place.

It's about 4 minutes long. In a nutshell, that little probe is one busy machine: constantly scanning and re-aiming. I'm totally impressed !
Techno-tidbit: it's currently traveling at something like 9 miles/sec.
It starts to get good at about the 30sec mark.

Pluto and the "New Horizons" probe
Re: Pluto and the "New Horizons" probe
It's astounding to think that the first orbital spacecraft was launched within the lifetime of people not yet 60 years old. We hadn't even seen the far ("dark") side of our own moon then.
And now we're seeing Pluto and Charon.
And now we're seeing Pluto and Charon.
Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur. (Anything is more impressive if you say it in Latin)

Re: Pluto and the "New Horizons" probe
I like Pluto a lot better now, as a representative of a large population of Kuiper Belt objects, than I ever did as a dinky little planet smaller than our moon.
