RECOVERED: Leonard Barry's pipes, Dublin

A place for our musicians to post information about instruments lost, stolen, or otherwise missing.
Forum rules
This is the C&F-wide forum for posting notices of any instruments which have been lost or stolen, or have gone missing.

Titles should include at least the type of instrument (flute, fiddle, etc.), the place of disappearance, and the nature of the loss.

Example: Stolen: Generation D whistle in Timbuktu

Reports linked from other sources or internet sites should include the basic information in addition to just the link.

In order to limit cross-posting, and to keep reporting and information centralized in one place, a post linking to a notice here (but not a copy) may be posted in ONE other C&F forum, typically the forum of the instrument involved.

Of course, follow-up posts to announce found or recovered instruments are always welcome!

Thanks - Your ChiffCo Management

RECOVERED: Leonard Barry's pipes, Dublin

Post by learnthegrip »

Leonard Barry's pipes have been stolen. The following is from his FaceBook post.

Hi all! Our House was broken into and my set of Pipes were stolen. They're Stainless Steel and ebony with imitation ivory mounts. An extra 4th drone and the set has a double switch at the stock. There's an inscription on the stock saying Made for Leonard Barry May 2012 and an inscription on the back Made by VMOB, please share. Thanks all.

More information would be helpful, especially for non-pipers who will be reading this.

o Who is Leonard Barry?
o Where is his house located (town, city)?
o When were the pipes stolen?
o Were the pipes in a case, or loose?
o Who is the maker (VMOB)?
o Is there a photo of the set?

With that info, I'll copy this to our Lost/Stolen/Missing forum.

Leonard Barry is a piper based in Dublin. I believe that his pipes were stolen over the weekend. There are photos on https://www.facebook.com/leonard.barry. ... 0291330662. The set is distinctive, having four drones and a double drone switch. I've asked Leonard to supply the other information so that I don't pass on things I'm not sure about.

From Leonard:
Pipes were stolen last evening in Ballyfermot area of Dublin. Victor Mullaly is the maker and [in] theory [they] were in a black case.

I met Leonard at the St. Louis Tionol Saturday, and he said the pipes have been returned. A couple of the reeds are dead, but otherwise they are fine. The police speculate the thieves saw what looked like a gun case and grabbed it, not knowing what was inside. I'm hazy on details after that, but yay. Good news!

Thank you for the update, Cathy!

I'd urge posters of notices here to try to remember to post updates when there's a change of status.
