If I am not mistaken that is the notation that Padraig O'Keeffe gave to his students, indicating finger placement and bowing. A tablature, I suppose.

Crossed there, twice. I just inserted that bit about the POK system of notation. There are some boks with copies of POK manuscripts, ITMA has recently added a few MSS as well, may be on their website.

The lines of the stave indicate the strings of the fiddle. So the middle line would come out as

Ad df ed AD| AD de fe ef| Ad df ed BD|Ad de fd d2|

The slur lines indicate slurred bowing and presumably the V signs indicate up bows. Pretty complete system!
