FS: Evans Border Pipes (SOLD)

Post by bepoq »

Dear All,

I have here a set of Richard and Anita Evans Border (Scottish style) or Lowland pipes in A in Muhuhu wood, brass and horn for sale. They are in good condition and playing nicely and easily just now at a quite low pressure. They play all the usual accidentals on border pipes and you can shiver the back lil for a note above the high tonic. Drones in A bass, A tenor and E, alto, and there is a little brass drone stop that lives in the stock, as you can see in the pictures below. I am selling them without bellows, but if you need a set and meet my asking price for the pipes I will be glad to throw in a serviceable, if unprepossessing, set of MacWarner bellows. There are also links to videos of me playing them on youtube (note: the bellows in the video are not the ones on offer)—please excuse the poor playing *fights not to give the list of excuses why*. I would say that the videos overplay the chanter sound and underplay that of the drones because of the location of the camera's microphone. I am hoping to get $1350 for them, but will entertain offers. The Evans are not currently offering border pipes. Please contact me by email with specific questions about this set, or questions about border pipes in general, or interest (PMs will work but I sometimes forget to check, so response time might not be so good).

Best,

Ben

I keep forgetting things, sorry. The chanter is designed to accept scraped down highland pipe reeds, as a result it is quite easy (insofar as these things ever are with reeds) to make your own to your own liking, and to experiment. The drone reeds are Richard's proprietary design with solid brass bodies with a taper and plastic tongues.

A dodgy attempt at the Gallowglass (there's some of your accidentals): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfrqnftE ... e=youtu.be

And an even dodgier attempt at Welcome Home My Dearie:

Go to Berwick Johnny (I think):
