I have two Native American style flutes that a friend gifted me before she passed away a few months ago. One is Bamboo and the other is Cedar. I live in a dry climate and was wondering if I should be putting some kind of oil inside the bores to keep them moisturized? And if so....what would be the best type of oil to use?
Also wondering if oiling the bore makes the flute sound any different? The bamboo flute seems to sound a bit airy or raspy but that might be me.
If this topics has been addressed already please point me to the link. Thanks!

It does not change the sound.
It helps preventing cracks. It happens seldomly but it can happen in very dry environments.

Check out Ordell Borg's awesome tutorial videos on YouTube as well.
There's a 6-video-series for beginners and a 10-video-series for intermediate players. The latter is very helpful for beginners as well.
I've become a great High Spirits fan.
They build wonderful and professional instruments which are in perfect tune.
Have fun with your NAFs. Are they 5-hole or 6-hole flutes?

Thanks for the YouTube advice....I have viewed a couple of them and they are very easy to understand. What would we ever do without YouTube!Inner Light wrote:

Both the flutes are 6 hole. The bamboo is a G and the cedar is an A.
They are fun to play and I am finding some free songs on the Web to play.
