Hi y'all,

I'd really like to get a bunch of copies of my iPad MIDIFlute, MIDIChanter, and MIDIPipes MIDI controller apps into the hands of those who might experiment with it, so I'm making the apps free for a while, probably through Dec 10.

The apps don't produce any sound on their own, they are designed for playing hardware and software VST-style MIDI synthesizers via a CoreMIDI compatible interface connected to the dock connector or virtual MIDI instruments like IK Multimedia SampleTank® for iOS or Sonosaurus ThumbJam running on your iPad.

Here's the links to the iTunes App Store as well as information websites with demo videos:

Cheers and thanks,

Michael

Interesting idea. Almost makes me wish I had one of those things to play around with.

When I play, I tend to rely on tactile feedback to make sure my fingers are in the right place. It seems like it would be really hard to get the holes every time on a smooth surface like that. I haven't actually used the program though, so I don't know if it's easier than it seems like it would be. Still, it's cool to see the sort of music creation apps people are coming up with to take advantage of the multi-touch interface. Kudos for making them.

Hi Arbo,

No, these are only for iPad....

It's pretty easy to get used to the touch screen, particularly for the flutes and pipes. The harder apps are the concertinas, where the fingers have to move. All the apps have spacing based on real instruments, so it's pretty easy to get used to the spacing, but yes, there is a short period of adjustment. I do a lot of work to make the touch detect very forgiving, you don't actually have to be all that accurate with your finger position relative the holes, just in the general vicinity, and the app will do the right thing almost all the time.

I'd be happy to set you up with a copy of MIDITina and/or MIDIAnglo for iPhone if you'd like a copy, but you'd have to buy your own copy of ThumbJam (or other CoreMIDI-compliant synth app) to play with it.

I'll be messing around with the flute/whistle one and give you what feedback I can. Any possibility of adding the English concertina MIDI to the free app list?

(Always look a gift horse in the mouth...but hey! I've bought quite a number of Michael's apps!)
