NAMM Show 2012 Meet-Up

Post by MTGuru »

If any Chiffers will be attending the annual NAMM show in Anaheim next week and might be interested in an informal Chiffboard meet-up, please let me know.

I'm planning to be there all day on Saturday, January 21.

Thanks!

Attendance is limited to paid-up member companies, their employees and guests. The last time I attended was in 1986, as an employee of a major music retailer. This year I'm the guest of a major manufacturer, and may do an informal demo. There are few trad-oriented exhibitors, but it would be fun to meet up if any Chiffers will be there.

Tell us something.: Not a new musician, but fairly new to the Uilleann Pipes. I am primarily a bass player, studied jazz bass in university, but also play, piano, saxophone, clarinet and drums. Looking forward to a long and happy experience with the pipes!

This will be the first NAMM show I will miss since 1999. I have always gone as a manufacturers employee actually "working" the show floor.

I now work for a manufacturer who does not participate.

It is quite the spectacle for anyone involved in Music.

I'll be there waking up the NAMM-goers with Wicked Tinkers in the lobby Friday morning. Where can I find you all?

Don't think we'll make it up Friday, Aaron, too bad. If you'll be there Saturday, PM me your mobile number and we'll contact you. Knock 'em dead, and drink lots of coffee. :-)

I played at NAMM last night with the LA Scots Pipe Band.

Here we are doing our final tuneup

We marched out like this

then in front of that stage we play Amazing Grace while a slideshow is shown, of people in the music industry who have died over the previous year.

Got a badge, might be there Friday afternoon, probably there Saturday.

Here's what I did last year

So the question is: are you interested in a meet-up?

If so, PM me your mobile number.

I walked around for a bit yesterday (Friday) but didn't see the Chieftan whistle/Tony Dixon booth which was there last year.

Seeing that booth and chatting with Tony and playing a bunch of those whistles was my NAMM highlight last year.

Anyhow I should be going over there today (Saturday) around noonish.

See y'all

Richard

BTW I talked to a Roland rep who said that their $69 Dr Beat is capable of playing additive rythms (such as Buchimish 2+2+2+2+3+2+2) but he didn't have one to show me- he said that they were only featuring new products at NAMM. I've asked in the past an so far nobody has been able to demonstrate this capacity on a Dr Beat.

Let us know what kind of good promotional items they give away. I don't need to know about pens and stuff.

That's it for another year. Much too much to see in one day, but great fun trying.

I'm not into promo goodies, but I did get an "I Love my Martin Guitar" button. And it's true! :-)

Thanks, all.

I got a set of free foam earplugs! Would have been fun to go on Sunday when a lot of stuff goes on sale, some vendors would rather sell their floor samples than have to ship them back to HQ.
