The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for people who are interested in the Irish language and various Celtic languages to discuss them, to practice them, and to share information about them, particularly (but not exclusively) in the context of traditional music and culture.

This is not a "translation forum," per se, though translation requests may occasionally be honored at the discretion of the moderators. A new Irish learners forum

Post by Redwolf »

Hi all,

You may not be aware of this, but Irish Gaelic Translator.com, which is linked to under the forum rules above, was recently sold to an investment company, which proceeded to plaster the place with ads (including some very nasty pop-ups). Within a week, forum traffic slowed to a trickle. The moderators tried to negotiate some kind of a compromise with the new owners (limit the types of ads, get rid of the pop-ups, remove visible ads for regulars over a certain post count, etc.), but it's been like talking to a wall. They're only interested in the number of hits the forum gets, not the number of posts, or the number of people actually registering for the forum. As a sad result, the forum appears to be dying.

Rather than lose the community we have built there, the moderators decided to start a new forum. We will continue to monitor IGTF, and to help people who may visit the place, but if you're looking for the kind of lively, helpful, supportive Irish language community that IGTF used to be, I strongly recommend visiting the new Irish Learners' Forum (ILF): http://irishlearner.awyr.com/phpBB3/

There's a section there for Scottish Gaelic as well. So far we only have one regular with Scottish Gaelic, but if others jump in and join, it could become a viable forum for Gaelic speakers and learners as well.

Oh yes...and we will continue doing the kind of translation requests mentioned in the rules above. The new forum actually has a special page specifically for such requests.
