Back from Romania

Hello everyone. I'm back from a very productive trip to Romania. Not only were we able to work side-by-side with several hard working and loving Romanians, but I was also able to find the Budapest whistle guy that I mentioned a while back. I purchased a flute (in F) and several whistles, one of which is pictured below. I also found a traditional hymn tune that I had a friend translate. Both the words and the tune are beautiful and are below as well. It was originally in F, but I have transposed it to D.

The hymn is very beautiful, Erik. Could we hear you play it? Also could you add the chords? It sounds good on the mandolin, but needs some kind of back up.
I admire what you are doing.

Hi Ron,

I'll work something up. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to go through all of his whistles to find one that was in tune enough. They are largely tourist whistles, but if you can find a good one, it performs well.

Thank you for your kind words. I honestly don't do much, though. Just travel there once in a while and help where I can. Really, the Romanians themselves are doing all of the work, but it is a long road.

The chords are in progress... I'll have them soon. Interestingly, the mandolin is one of their primary instruments. I heard a mandolin choir last week do Handel's Halleluia Chorus in 5 parts. It was incredible! Ages 8 to 14!

The chords are complete and I've edited the images above to reflect that. I wish I could take credit for the left hand, but I can't. A friend of mine did the work and the first time that I heard him play it, it brought tears to my eyes.

I haven't recorded it to the whistle, yet, but I do have a MIDI available <a href="http://www.tullberg.com/NumaiHarul.mid">here</a>.
