Website

Irish Fest Center, 1532 Wauwatosa Ave, Milwaukee, WI
Ticket Price - $15.00

Irish Fest is proud to announce a lecture & concert by the Brock McGuire band to be presented on Friday, September 12 at the Irish Fest Center. The Brock McGuire Band is familiar to many Milwaukee area trad music lovers due to its appearances at Irish Fest and many award-winning CDs. Last year’s Compass Records release of the “Humdinger” CD by Paul Brock and Enda Scachill was voted “Irish Music Album of the Year.” by the Irish Times. The Brock-McGuire band was recently voted the “Instrumental Band of the Year” by LiveIreland.com and the Irish American News.

The first half of the concert will be a lecture entitled “Irish Traditional Music in America” delivered by Paul Brock, with the musical assistance of his band mates. Paul traces the evolution of Irish traditional music in America starting in the 19th century. This evolution includes the growth of the “ethnic” recording labels in the 1920s through the 1940s. The band members illustrate “Sligo style” reels, songs played on early Irish radio in NYC and other unique sounds of Irish traditional dance music during the period. According to Paul “it is important for audiences in America to understand that Irish music is part of their own musical heritage.”.

The second half of the evening features the superb musicianship of the Brock McGuire band. Drawing from Irish, Irish-American and Irish-Canadian influences, Paul Brock, Manus McGuire, Enda Scahill and Denis Carey give us an exciting musical tutorial and a highly polished performance that has become their hallmark.
