Any Irish flute/whistlers in Maine? Especially Bangor??

Just wondering if there is ANYONE else out there from the greator bangor region of Maine, USA. Yeah, I know, it's the sticks, but I'd like to find some real Irish flute players to help me get better... hard from just cds and books.. and I'd love to find sessions...

This is not on topic. Excuse me.
I live in South Carolina, and my grandfather's house is right on US 1. When I was little, he used to love to tell me how you can get on Hwy 1 in one direction and go to Key West, or go the other direction to Bangor, Maine.

LOL... Yes..Route 1 will take you from 80 degrees to -30 degrees F if you drive long enough.. lol...

I've played in a session in Portland, and several local fluteplayers were in attendance. . . but that's probably a bit of a hike from Bangor.

yeah..something like 3 hours.. maybe more depending on conditions, etc. Which is a shame because the Old Port is fun with all the good pubs, bars, etc.

You might try contacting Song of the Sea in Bar Harbor. Since they sell whistles/etc, they might be able to put you in touch with like-minded folks.

Thanks for the advice. I already intended to call them some time this week about instructors in the area..hadn't thought of asking them about sessions.

I think meemtp is from up down that way ... you might want to try PMing him. He's fast becoming an excellent flute player from what I hear, really "gets" the music too, so even if there isn't a session maybe you can talk him into a "help group" or lessons????

Lies! All of it! Thanks Cat, how are you keeping tabs on me??
. Actually, my playing seems to be at its best when I'm not at the session. Funny how that works. Anyway, Kourtjestr, I'm in Portland which is obviously a bit from Bangor, especially this time of year. But....if you were to make it here for any reason, I'd be happy to meet up and do what I can to help. There is a flute player/piper who was in the Bangor area and is a member of this forum, I think his user name is "black bear". I'm not sure if he's still in the area as he was getting ready to go to medical school. In addition, I'd recommend crossposting on the flute forum. Best of luck!

its funny, i was backpacking and had my flute on me, and i went as far as bar harbor.. and i did spend some time in bangor, as well as portland. its just coincidental to me that i was in those places.. maybe if i'd known i woulda been able to stop by. ah well, c'est la vie.
