Two Titans of Trad... Michael Tubridy and James Keane

House concert with two "Titans of Trad" Michael Tubridy (flute) and James Keane (button accordion). Lovely special tunes throughout the night and thorough background history with every go. Guests were especially pleased when Michael Tubridy danced a jig and shortly thereafter sang a song. Two gentle giants filled the evening with warmth and tradition. You don't see this duo very often.

Somehow I expected that. And lovely photos in response. Admittedly Michael Tubridy and James Keane have played together in various bands and quartets on numerous occasions through the years. However, Michael himself pointed out specifically that rarely does he and James get a chance to play as a duo. Duo here means two.

It was lovely they reformed the Castle Band as a once off for that occasion, even if I needed to stitch two pics together to get them all in. Keane has been in the US for a long time. And it was appropriate they came together (with John Kelly taking his father's place and Liam O Connor sitting in Joe Ryan's seat and Mick Hand taking on the piano in stead of Bridie Lafferty) while he was over in tribute of Muiris O Rochain, whose anniversary is around this time by the way.

Mick is always a true gentleman.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Michael Tubridy at the Northeast Tionol last weekend. Brilliant flute player, an absolute gem of a person ... and, as we discovered at the Sunday night session, a pretty swell concertina player, too! Who knew? I adore him. Would have loved to hear that concert. Thanks for the photos!

What made the evening special for everyone... this was Michael Tubridy's first visit ever to Fairfield, CT. James Keane had visited previously.

Michael Tubridy was headed for a final concert in Annapolis, MD before returning home.
