Some more lyrics explanation - "Phil the fluter"

Post by Didjeridust »

Based on the success with my recent question posted here I put out another, this time there are som pieces of text of "Phil the Fluter" that puzzles me.

"The Flower of Ardmagullion, and the Pride of Petravore"

and

"Coverin' the buckle, and the shuffle and the cut"

I'm not sure where Ardmagullion is. According to Mudcat, Petravore was a pub in County Cavan. "The flower of" and "The pride of" are just conventional formulas or expressions for suggesting the beauties or virtues of the person named.

Covering the [shoe] buckle, shuffle, and cut are descriptions of various steps and movements in Irish dancing.
