If you click on the link to the Chiff and Fipple Forum index above, you'll see that below the title of this forum there is a request to read the faq (and a link to same)before posting here.

That's because the intention was to keep this forum for discussions about Irish trad music, and not questions about, for example, specific instruments, the best place for which is the Whistle board.

I suggest you do read the faq, because if you continue making posts like these here some curmudgeon like me might be tempted to say, "Make up your own faq-ing mind what whistle to buy."

FAQ stands for frequently asked questions. It's a bit of a misnomer in this case since nobody actually asked those questions even once. But they might have.

Yes, he is - like most people around here, in fact, apart from one or two who've been acting a little strangely lately.

There are a few running gags here, including the one about how long it takes between the opening of a new board and someone coming along to ask advice on which low whistle to buy. You could also ask what kind of whistle Andrea Corr plays, thus giving all us elder lechers a chance to post photos of her and drool into our guacamole.

If you're new to the music, you should carefully read Stevie's own website, it's full of wisdom about the music. You should also browse the main C&F website, and the C&F Annex which has been set up by one of the regulars at http://www.geocities.com/whistleannex/index.html

I don't think you'll find any album confined to an F whistle, the standard key for Irish trad instruments is D, and you'll just get the odd track in F. So if you want to play along with a recording, it's better to do it with a high D and then transfer the tunes to the low F in your own time.

Roger

Andrea Corr may look well but is pretty hopeless as a trad musician. I have heard her several times and isn't any better than a very average session player

That's part of the running joke. In fact it is the joke. But on the other hand, around here it's an Image

Uh-oh, Andrea Corr infests yet another thread. However, since this was off-topic to begin with, I don't suppose it matters much.

Oops! Forgot which board I was on! Also haven't quite managed the blue clicky thing so apologies all round and let's consider this thread closed.

MU,

we try to keep this forum pretty focused on the music, (tune transcriptions, questions which are relevant to interpretation of the music irrespective of instrument etc.), whereas the more trivial stuff is welcome -within reason - on the adjoining poststructural whistle board, so we can continue our discourse analysis there.

That's what Bloomers was getting at with his reply to your initial post here. It's also why I apologised for bringing in reference to the raven-haired one, which was inappropriate here.

Besides, given your nickname, you are clearly no stranger to a postmodern sense of irony...
