I heard this tune on Frankie Kennedy and Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh's album, Ceol Aduaidh. It sounds very familiar to me. Has anybody heard of this tune with a different name?

The Varsoviana, or Varsonvienne is yer answer. In the US, we sing it as "Put yer little foot, put yer little foot, put yer little foot right there"
The name implies from Warsaw Poland but its a tune AND dance from at least 170 years ago. It was a popular dance in pre-Gold Rush california as I have found it in old collections.
I think its probably from around the time that Central European dances like the waltz and polkas stormed Europe and the new World, including introducing the accordian to Mexico etc. The Waltz really took over in much of Latin America, especially Venezuela.

Just people having a good time. Peter Laban told me that they have a special dance there in Clare that accompanies it. Bet its similar to the Spanish etc etc.
