Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that he won senior comps in '79. You are correct Egan is about 37 or 38.

How come no results from 2007, 2008 and so on? That's what I'm really interested in.

I wonder if the banjo winner wasn't the young John Carty (rather than Carthy).

I know he won the all-Ireland in the early 80s anyway, if it wasn't 1981 it must have been 1982 or 1983 because he came out to Australia around that time where he was billed (on one poster) as "All-Ireland Bango Champion." [sic] I drove him around for a couple of days. I asked him about the competition.

'77 and '83 to follow....

I was at the Fleadh in Letterkenny in 1979 and I wandered into the under-18 fiddle competition. Martin Hayes bet Kevin Glackin all right. The adjudicator was Michael O'hAlluin, a flute player and piper from Dublin.

Both Martin and Kevin had totally different styles and I don't know how a winner was picked.

Tell you the truth I thought that it was an under-14 competition.

Yes, it was Buncrana. The memory must be going. I camped that year. At one stage had about 14 in the tent. Mick Coyne and his brother Eamonn, Eamonn Brophy, Martin Hanly and Shea Fogarty and more that I cannot remeber.
Jim McKillop was playing on stage in the sun during the day an Saturday. He played some brilliant music. I spent a couple of hours listening to him.
Mick Coyne organised a pipers session. Tried to get all the pipers at the fleadh to go. There was only seven or eight at the whole fleadh. I bought a practice set that September from Matt Kiernan.
It was hell trying to get back. There was an explosion in Mullaghmore in Sligo that weekend and the security coming back down through Derry was fierce.
Good memories of that weekend
