[Thread revival. - Mod]

Is anyone from this thread still around?

Im trying to build a database of Fleadh results and wondering if anyone has attempted to do this before?

I'm still here. I'm currently in possession of a fairly complete set of issues of "Treoir" magazines from 1975 to 2003. I would think that the results in all age groups for each year would be in there somewhere. I'm not about to post them all here by typing them out, but if anyone wanted - and is not in a hurry - I'd be willing to scan them and forward them as attachments by email, as and when I find the time to do it. Anyone wants any of this information, send me a PM.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I was sort of hoping someone would have all the hard work done and there would be a database or excel of results somewhere, but I haven't come across it yet. The results from the past 10 years or so can be found in PDF files around the web so they could fairly readily be converted into a database. The resource of Treoirs you have is fairly unique I'd say and it would be a good exercise to transfer the fleadh results from them onto a computer. I don't think its practical to transcribe everything by typing but if they were scanned at a high quality perhaps an OCR program could convert these scans to text and then I could load into a database. Would you be willing to scan one year of results and I'll attempt to convert to Excel. I'll make these publicly available of course if it works out.

All the best

If you PM me an email address I'll scan the pages of the earliest year I have and forward them to you. If that works for you, I'll do as much as I can, as soon as I can, but next week is very busy for me leading up to a flute weekend I'm heavily involved with in Edinburgh. I'll have a bit more time once that's over, for 2 weeks or so until the Willie Clancy week comes around.
A' the best. Kenny

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.
