I have only just discovered the fantastic films of Myles O’Reilly. Check out this film about travelling musicians and theatre in Ireland https://youtu.be/wpQ4eNyKyN4 for starters.

‘Backwards to go Forwards’ is probably the best ITM documentary in years, if not ever, in some respects.

He's always very good at creating an atmosphere by inserting certain very day to day images, streetscapes etc. Very visually poetic as it were. Ofcourse that's standard fare for documentary makers but he knows how to pick them particularly well to set a mood.

It's sort of interesting some young musicians are all of a sudden getting into more 'folkie' music (rather than traditional), going back to music my own generation was listening to during the seventies and eighties. The wheel turns and it all goes in cycles.

Speaking of documentaries and atmosphere, there was a lovely one on RTE last : Between Land and Sea. Nothing to do with music, but if you're into surfing, that'll be one to watch. And it's within my local environment.
