Going with the family on a tour of Northern Ireland early this August (Inishfree Irish Music Tours). The leaders are folk musicians and the tour is slanted towards inclusion of musical entertainment (concerts and sessions) each evening. We are targeted to visit venues selected from Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, or Clare (9 day trip). As noted this is my first visit over. Any not-to-be-missed opportunities in early August? I think we have some flexibility...

Always a pleasant enough festival, if the weather holds.

The Galway arts festival is always good but I think that ends by July 29 this year. Tunes in the church is always good in Galway though (concerts daily throughout summer).

But, as I always tell people, best to just play it by ear, take it as you find it and enjoy whatever you stumble into. Feel the place up gently, as it were.

I'm confused. None of those places are in Northern Ireland.

That’s what I was thinking too. My guess from looking at the towns is they meant the northern part of the Republic.

My wife and I just returned from spending two weeks in the northern areas (both sides of the border).

If they are going to NI, we’ve had great times in pubs in/around Randalstown. Especially going to the Crosskeys Inn. (Oldest thatched roof pub in Ireland.) Great music and very friendly folks.

Are you interested in sightseeing suggestions, or things more related to music?

This was our third trip and we’re already planning our next visit.

Ah. I see what you mean. A very confusing description. It seems to be a "Northern Tour" with "possible day trips across the border into Northern Ireland". It appears that none of the main points of the itinerary are in Northern Ireland, but they might decide to have a day trip or two across the border. They appear to be tours exclusively for people from North America (those who don't like tours, anyway). It would be interesting to find out who gets booked to play in the pubs and concerts.

Sorry, guess I didn't check the map first. I was just going by their description and misinterpreted. Thanks for clarifying.
