CP: Tonight at Paddy Mac's - now serialised on BandCamp!

As it says in the subject, we're serialising the CD on BandCamp, one track per week, here. For those who haven't been following, it's a very trad CD - mainly fiddle and pipes.

There's also a YouTube video up, which we're really pleased with. :)

Well, since I've started this experiment of 'serialising' the CD on BandCamp, one per week, I'd better carry on! :)

The next track is at:

Track No, 6 now up. The Choice Wife (or whatever else you want to call it) plus Give Us a Drink of Water. It's our attempt at a 'pub session' sound, only without the punters :) :

I, for one, have enjoyed the CD a fair bit. It is a really good listen. I also appreciate a lot of the thought that went into the production of the CD.

(Below is an image of my iPhone's report of how many times I've listened to each song. The number of plays is the furthest right column.)

Thanks Aaron. Firstly, thanks for your kind words on the album, and I'm really glad you're enjoying it.

Secondly, the stats are interesting - reflecting just one person's experience, of course, being yours, but interesting nonetheless. Whether it's because it's the first track, you seem to appreciate our version of Loftus Jones, which is really pleasing. We think of that as our 'signature tune'. On BandCamp it's not getting the same number of hits that the others are getting. Mind you, it's possible that that is also because it's the first track - maybe our 'following' is building up, or something ...

Anyway, the next track is now up on BandCamp as well - https://tapm.bandcamp.com/track/the-bla ... deno-reels
They're reels composed by me. Strangely, I have now heard the second of them played in Ireland (a couple of months ago). Goodness only knows where the fella got it from, as he didn't seem to know of the CD (I sold him one, though  ).

Enjoy!

:D

This week’s track is a piping classic: Colonel Fraser. Greg plays it first on pipes, and then I join in on fiddle. I love this tune!

Catch it on BandCamp here:

Regarding my listening habits:
If you didn't guess, I primarily have to listen passively to most music. I tend not to have a whole lot of time for listening actively or even posting on C&F :( . So I am usually listening while doing Accounting work or riding my bike. I like to imagine that if I had been able to actively listen that many times I would now be playing the songs instead of listening to them. :)

I think I enjoy starting at the beginning of the CD. The CD starts with the door opening and closes with the door closing, and I appreciate that detail. I appreciate the cow mooing at the beginning of track 5 since it gives context for when the mooing happens during the set. These details illustrate to me the intentionality that went into creating the CD.

Without getting into it too much, the way that we experience music has been changing as the medium changes. CDs still lend themselves to sequential listening, more so than App downloads. That being said, I did rip all the songs off the CD and put them onto my iPhone. Regardless, the CD (to me at the least) still lends itself to being listened to sequentially and in listening to it sequentially I feel like I am experiencing it in the order and means that was intended.

Agreed. :)

Even with passive listening, you may be surprised one day to find yourself playing one or more of the tunes without quite knowing how you got there. The result might not be perfect, but having the basic idea, you can refine it from there.

This week’s track from “Tonight at Paddy Mac’s” on BandCamp is my own personal favourite on the entire album. We knew the effect we wanted, and we got it. It helps that it starts with my all-time favourite jig. It’s “The Humours of Ballyloughlin / Delaney’s”.

Enjoy! 

Thank you for appreciating that. And you're right - a lot of thought went into putting the thing together, in the order it is, and with the details that it's got.

It means a lot to me that you do listen in the order intended. It's how I like to listen to it myself, although I do have some tracks that I'll put on individually - The Humours of Ballyloughlin being the primary one. Ooh! And that just happens to be this week's listen on BandCamp, for those who don't have the album!

Delurking to say that I've had the CD in my car for just under a week now (listening during my commute to and from work), and the more I listen, the more I like it. (And I liked it quite a lot the first time!) As AaronFW mentioned, the sequence of the tracks on the CD works really well. I really appreciate the talent and effort that went into this album.

I give it
