I play Martin Wynne's 1, 2, 3 and 4 together as a set. They're great.

One or twice over the years, I've heard tell of a fifth tune, "Martin Wynne's No 5", but I've never found it anywhere. The people from whom I've heard about it are people I would trust, but it does leave me with the two questions:

Does it exist?
Where can I find it? (Dots, or, preferably, played.)

I've actually heard it claimed that there were 9 Martin Wynne tunes, I believe from a US CCE official. But I've checked with Brian Conway, and he only knows of the 4 he's recorded. As Wynne was one of his teachers, I'm inclined to believe him.

Mind you, I'd love to be proved wrong on this!

Thanks Colomon. I've never heard of there being any more than 5. But, like Brian Conway, it seems, I only know 4.

Well, perhaps we cannot rely on Brian in these matters? (Or maybe I muddled asking him the question / remembering his answer?)

Anyway, it's not called "#5", but here's a reel alleged to be by Martin which is not (unless I'm utterly confused this morning) one of the standard #1, 2, 3 or 4. I accidentally found it while searching old Treoir magazines for mentions of Josie McDermott (inspired by the other current thread at the top). There they say "SLIGO THEN AND NOW (Reel): Bill says that this is one of Martin Wynne's rare compositions. As Martin did not have a name for it Bill suggested the above title." I searched TunePal and the only strong hit was the above link. (Which makes me think the "Bill" mentioned is maybe Bill Black? Treoir scans are a PITA to read, pages are not in any order I've been able to figure out so far.)

I'll try to get ABC of it up on The Session later this morning. My initial impression is it's a nice reel.

I should add that Bill has a sixth tune, "Martin Wynne's Strathspey". I've got the dots but I've e-mailed him asking for more info on it before posting.

Bill tells me those two plus the standard #3 and #4 were all he got from Martin.

BTW, when I went to enter that one, The Session warned me that there were already a bunch of tunes with that name. (Not counting tune type.) There was the usual batch of his tunes and a misattribution or two. But there were also:

"Martin Wynne's Slipjig": https://thesession.org/tunes/13138 -- this is an unidentified tune from "Martin, Paddy Reynolds, and Felix Dolan, playing at the Eagle Tavern in NYC." No explicit claim that it is a Martin Wynne composition, but a quick check in TunePal doesn't find it anywhere. (Not even, weirdly enough, in this version from The Session.)
