Tune name and have I got it right?

Post by benhall.1 »

Woke up this morning with a tune going through my head, as I always do. I only had the first part up until now, and tried it in Tunepal without success. Then I thought I knew the second part, but I might not be right with that. Anyway, below is what I've got.

So, firstly, what's the tune represented by the first part?
And secondly, have I matched the right second part? Is there any more?

The thing is, I just know it's a really common tune, so why I can't find it ... :-?

At times it seems you could be hinting at Bill Malley's Barndance, but at other times, not so much.

Bill Malley's ... hmmm ... let's have a look ...

... nope, I'm sure it's not that. I'm pretty convinced I have the first part right, so it's a different tune from Bill Malley's ...

The B part's not right, but I don't recall the name. The B part almost goes a bit the way you started, but then the second half is the same as the A part.

It's a march (or possibly a barndance)! I'm pretty sure it's one Harry Bradley played (on one of his albums).

I've tried cutting the note lengths in half - you might get more results that way on tunepal as it worked on abctunesearch.com.

Thanks Nico. Bang on! And yes, I think I've made the second part from a totally unrelated French tune! Probably fooled by a similar start to it ...

I like the full name, too! But yeah, not common in Irish music as far as I'm aware. So you're ok!

In fact, the second part is nothing like mine! :o

I got the first part right though. And the second part I'd grafted on is, I'm sure, a completely unrelated French tune.

Oh, and a warning for those looking for the dots over on the session.org - the tune linked to the recording is a completely different tune. Not in any way related. If I feel like it I might notate the second part of Bruce's March in a bit ...
