04/16/06 The Groves (concertina)
04/16/06 Michael Eskin sends a reel, "The Groves" on a Frank Edgley C/G Anglo concertina.

Bravo Tony, this time it really is a concertina. But that's no reel.TonyHiggins wrote:04/16/06 Michael Eskin sends a reel, "The Groves" on a Frank Edgley C/G Anglo concertina.

Ok, I've learned my lesson. (not about concertinas/accordions/etc) but, from now on, I'm just copying and pasting without guessing. If you just email me, "Here's The Swollen Bunion" or whatever, that's what I'll post and put in misc. Or maybe a new category: Unspecified. Or I'll say reel/horpipe/take your pick.Bravo Tony, this time it really is a concertina. But that's no reel.
So, anyway, if it wasn't a reel, my next guess would be a hornpipe? Do I have an adequate sense of the likely?

You have indeed, Tony. The Groves is one of those 'big' hornpipes. It is on Matt Molloy's black LP and has probably been recorded by a few pipers. (Another one, much more frequently recorded, is The Drunken Sailor, which is basically a minor-key version of The Groves.)TonyHiggins wrote:So, anyway, if it wasn't a reel, my next guess would be a hornpipe? I will endeavour to stop making sarky comments about any future innocent slips in this area. (Clips 'n' Slips, anyone?)

That's what I would do! You're a good sport, Tony! It is good to find out what a tune is if someone knows and can say something about it, but that is not your responsibility. Bravo for your second guess! You're doing better than I am.TonyHiggins wrote:Ok, I've learned my lesson. Got to thinking: 1 out of 2 really ain't bad for me. Be sarky if you like, but I can always use additional or correctional info. Anyway, making mistakes lets me know someone is paying attention.Bravo Tony, this time it really is a concertina. But that's no reel.
As for being a good sport, you're either that or masticated dead meat in ITM. (Dang it, someone really did delete the eye-rolling emoticon. I checked again. What? Was it too hurtful for this croud?)

Rumor is that a virus wiped the eyeroll smilie off of all phpBBoards.TonyHiggins wrote:(Dang it, someone really did delete the eye-rolling emoticon. I checked again. What? Was it too hurtful for this croud?)
You could just take it from another board, by using this code:
Code: Select all

Keep going, you have my interest piqued...
Tony
testing:
Is it just my work computer or are you seeing a red x? Ie, are you seeing a hornpipe where I'm seeing a reel???

Looks fine here. But, if that one doesn't work for you, there are lots more:TonyHiggins wrote:Is it just my work computer or are you seeing a red x?
