who of you boys and girls, is sometimes playing while standing; with one foot on the pipes-case?
I discovered that I can reach the gear much better.

- Tell us something.: I am interested in the uilleann pipes and their typical -and broader- use. I have been composing and arranging for the instrument lately. I enjoy unusual harmonic combinations on the pipes. I use the pipes to play music of other cultures.

Re: playing while standing
I have tried this many ways, both with contraptions and without. They only way this can work is that you need to contrived something that allows you to maintain both feet on the ground. This is what the old boys (Doran, McPeake et al) did. Any stick-and-prop thing leads to tremendous fatigue in the standing leg. I know this arrangement may be seen in many old photos and postcards, but I cannot imagine they could maintain that posture for long.

Re: playing while standing
Apologies if a little off-topic. Anyone play in this style, cross legged?

I use the cross-legged position when I need to take a leak.

- Tell us something.: If you flush your toilet 7 times whilst lilting "The Bucks of Oranmore", an apparition of one of the great pipers of old will appear in the mirror, you will be blessed with good reeds, but cursed with bad bags and bellows.

I usually play while kneeling on the floor. But I have a practice set, so.....

You can see what looks like a saxophone strap, combined with a popping valve.
