Just wondering if anyone can tell me if the Great Northern Irish Pipers Club still holds an annual Tionol event. I'm a complete newb to the uilleann world but would really like to get started. I read that this event was a good place to get some exposure to the craft, but I don't know if it's still held. If it's been phased out, I'm wondering if anyone could offer some alternative suggestions for how to go about getting a start in piping - something in the way of basic instructional workshops or other informal gatherings - basically any sort of in-person event that would give me some basic orientation to the instrument. I'm in central South Dakota, so I'm prepared to do a bit of driving!

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is an event with piper Harry Bradley today at 3:40PM! (Sunday June 17). So if you can jump in the car and go, you might be able to make it.

My understanding is there will be a Tionol next year. The GNIPC does meet (once a month), so contact the club. http://www.gnipc.org/
I believe they are also on Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks much for the info!

I'm sorry that I saw your post a bit late to make the drive over today. Anyone have an email contact for the GNIPC folks? I've been all over the website and can't seem to find a way to connect with them. I'd love to make some contacts there to learn about potential learning opportunities.
