Here is a picture of my Whitmer practice set..originally right handed, now converted to left handed. Thanks Nick (and Paul), they play great!

...now if I could just get my fingers to cover all the holes..and keep the bag at the proper pressure..and work the bellows at the same time...and....

Oh well, only 20 years, 11 months and 28 days to go..

OK, so here are shots of my pipes put together and ready for action. Actually, they've been seeing quite a lot of action over the past week.

They are a twin of the famous Patrick D'Arcy's set: a Wooff B set, in ebony with nickel silver and mammoth ivory mounts.

First, the set, in its inherent splendor.

Next, here's a nice shot of the top of the chanter (though not the chanter top), showing the nice ivory work, and a shot of Geoff's maker's mark.

Here's an OK pic of the regs, at a jaunty angle.

And here, just for fun, is a closeup of the bellows cheeks. Geoff used spalted elm, a really nice timber in its own right, and (since I'd bought the tusk he used myself in California), he made a rather decadent ivory inlet, and I just think it's cool.


And I changed my avatar to be the bass drone puck.

I hope you enjoy the shots as much as I enjoy these pipes . . . really, a work of art!

Go to the Kirk Lynch site and flip through the numerous photos of the engraved set if you haven't done so before. Nice.

Arrived today. My first regs by Nei O'Grady.It seems that there are not so many people upgrde his set to a full set. They are very simply made.
So I stained the main stock hand forged the shape of the drone switch,made bag cover and bellows pad ,and now looks pretty well.

The regs are out of tune right now,seems to take a looong time and reed
adjusting skills to bring them in tune.

By the way the cocobolo parts are a little roughly finished and I'm thinking of polishing them my self .How can I bring them to a shiny
surface? Using a finishig sand paper seems not to be enogh.

Try a very fine grade wire wool.

I was curious why you changed colors of wood until I noticed you have
plum colored regulators. Are you changing over to plumwood for tone?
What about the drones?

I play only B chanter in plumwood and very soon it will be wide bore D chanter in Plumwood.

I first got the snakewood chanter in September 1997
I got the snakewood mainstock/drones in March 1999
and last got the snakewood regs in December 2001

The snakewood regs was the last part to be added to the set so the wood was bit lighter colour when I got the regs.

Now I had the regs for 2 years the Tenor and Baritone regs have now darkened. No the regs was not plumwood and I will be changing to plumwood.

If you look at the photo of Sturob snakewood D set the wood was also lighter colour as the wood should darken in age.
