To anyone that can assist me please

I've been given a practice chanter to, strangely enough, practice and mess around with.

Knowing absolutely nothing about these, I need to get a new reed for it. Does this then just push into the top of the chanter, a bit like an oboe I suppose, or is there a different way of setting these up? Also, what type of reed is the best sort to get, or is it like a whistle and all depends on personal choice?

Just for information as well, the chanter is rather old and made of brown wood. I remember someone saying in a previous post that I put up about this that this may well be a pakistani one. Of that I am unsure, the wee book that comes with it definitely lilts towards a scottish theme.Does this then make a difference to what will happen and how it will sound?

Any information you can pass on would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

A

Do you have a practice set of Uillean pipes (chanter, bag, bellows) or a Highland pipes practice chanter (blow into the top)?

Sorry for the delay, been away for a long weekend.

It is a highland practice chanter, blow into the top.

Once again, any help would be great.
