Styles of pipes...?

A forum about Uilleann (Irish) pipes and the surly people who play them.

OK, obviously a rookie question....

I would like to see pics of the different styles of pipes. I've read about various names (Taylor, et al). Likewise, I've seen pics of pipes with curved drones and pipes with long straight drones. Is there a website that shows pics and comparisons of the various styles? Is there a tonal advantage to one style over another or is the style purely dependent on individual taste?

Thanks....

For the largest single resource of Uilleann Piping pictures, links (and many other instruments, music, culture, resources for Irish traditional music) visit Patrick D'Arcy's website:
