Firstly let me begin by apologizing for what must seem an incredibly dull and obvious post. OK!!! Now, my question is which hand plays at the top of the chanter. I have seen different players using either L or R hand. Im very curious, as I was hoping that I could use my L hand at the top as I play low whistle, and thought that if I can keep my L hand at the top , the pipes might!! feel just that little bit more comfortable.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Left hand on top actually means you're playing right-handed.

If you learn to play a keyless instrument like a whistle you can easily switch between hands, but a fully keyed Uilleann chanter won't allow you to 'cross hand' as you couldn't reach all the keys.

More right-handed pipes are available than left-handed. If it makes no difference which way you play now, I suggest you stick with playing right-handed.
